Lowther Holiday Park is a haven for wildlife, and is therefore much loved by motorcaravanners. Set in ancient woodland, it is filled with birdsong. As well as being handed a site map on arrival, you will also be given a wildlife guide, featuring pictures of the birds you are likely to see.
This site map also includes a selection of discount vouchers for local attractions – of which there are many. Rainy day fun could include a visit to the Cars of the Stars Museum. For outdoor activities, you could head to Rookin House Farm on the A66 between Keswick and Penrith, which has horse riding, fishing, quad biking and archery.
But the area’s most popular attractions are the fells. There are hundreds of walks at nearby Blencathra. For the less adventurous, there are plenty of good shops, pubs and restaurants to explore in the market town of Keswick, or alternatively you could take a boat cruise around the delightful Derwentwater – you’ll never want to leave!

Visitors are immediately put at ease when approaching Lowther. The site is located just off the A6 near Penrith, down a mile long drive that is mercifully wide enough for two units to pass.
On arrival you are directed to a temporary parking place, and presented with a plan of the park which details your pitch location. This plan comes with a selection of discount vouchers for local attractions. You also get a wildlife watch sheet with pictures of the birds that populate the park. Lowther is one of the few places left in the country where rare red squirrels can be found, and as such their habitat is protected.
Whatever your taste there is plenty do in this area. For the fell walker there are the Lakeland hills not far away. Keswick is great for shopping or you could take a boat trip on the lake.
Indoor attractions for wet weather days include the Cars of the Stars Museum or the Cumberland Pencil Museum. For something a bit different, Rookin House Farm has fishing, horse riding, quad biking, archery and many other outdoor activities.
The exceptional shop can supply all your needs and the bar, TV room and restaurant will keep you happy on those rainy days.
For children there are two play areas, one for older children and one for the youngsters, plus a recreation field with goal posts. There is a little noise from the nearby motorway but it is not loud enough to detract from your enjoyment of this lovely site.
