Akebar is a beautiful touring, camping and holiday home park in the Yorkshire Dales. Perfect for family camping and walking holidays situated between two national parks. Adjacent to the park is a 27 hole pay & play golf course with a covered, floodlit, 10 bay driving range. There is also our renowned pub/restaurant overlooking the croquet and bowling green.
We also welcome seasonal tourers and enquiries for Chalets and Holiday Homes sales
My parents used to take me here as a child so had high expectations on my return. The first thing i noticed as that the place is packed very tightly and although there is a recreation field, well other than that there is nothing for the kids to do. We were pitched at the very bottom behind the toilets which you cannot fault, however the view we got were of a field of sheep and one of them was dead next to the fence and wasnt removed for 2 days! Some lovely area's to visit and visit you must as there is nothing to do on the site unless your a golfer. I must say I was a tad disappointed as the site used to have loads of open space but that has gone. Probably wont go again!
Myself, my wife and our two children stayed at Akebar over a weekend in june, and all had a very pleasent time. It was the first time we had viited Akebar, and all the staff were very helpful in guiding us to where we had to be. We had a fun round of golf on the small 'pitch and pitch' course which was perfect for the whole family. All in all, It is a well maintained park, with fantastic surroundings. The facilities are good, but could do with a 're-vamp',(they were always very clean).
I would recomend Akebar to any family.

We are novice family campers, and pitched our tent where we thought was ok for camping with gas. Within 1 hr we were told we "Have to move it now". Apparently we pitched 15m form an electricity point, unbeknown to us, which was on the other side of a wooden fence. The man was very inflexible. We left the following day.

We stayed at the site over the August Bank Holiday and not surprisingly the site was very busy, but couldn't really cope with the amount of people.
Queues in the toilet block from 6am for toilet and showers. Later in the day the showers were freezing cold. The pub was more for the golfers not for families with children mainly the food on offer.
The shop was the very bare basics.
A token had to bought at the shop for the showers but no sign up saying this. I lost count of the amount of people going for a shower to find they didnt have a token. Only 30p per token, but after the expensive price to pitch thought it was a bit much.
The site is very nice otherwise and can take nice walks off and around the park.
If went again would have to try a non busy time.
Akebar Caravan Park, North yorkshire
I stayed at the campsite with my family for the weekend in August 2008 in our caravan. I was testing it out to see if we would be interested in a seasonal pitch. Whilst it is in a lovely area the site itself is poorly maintained, the showers and toilets were dirty and smelled, one of the locks to the toilet had not been maintained (my young daughter locked herself in), the waste bins were overflowing, electrical points were taped up etc. I didn't see any staff the entire weekend to check over the site. We also found some of the people staying there noisy - a couple near us had a huge argument, were drinking heavily, and he was chopping down wood from the trees to feed his huge roaring fire on the grass.

We stayed here about three years ago. A lovely site in a nice landscaped park. I probably wouldnt say its ideally situated for the Yorkshire Dales as you need a car to go anywhere but unless that worries you then I have no problem recommending the site. A nice golf course next door, plenty of areas for the kids to explore.
The shower blocks were reasonable, we had problems with continuous hot water in the showers but after I reported it they were on to it straight away.
A friendly site, fantastic (but expensive) restaurant, lots of space and lots to amuse kids if you take them.
There is a bar on site but we didnt use it, prefering to sit outside and soak up the Dales atmosphere.
Would we go again? Yes indeed.
