Christchurch is a gently sloping site high above the beautiful Wye Valley with waymarked walking routes down to the river, through surrounding woodlands. Nearby are the Clearwell Caves Ancient Iron Mines.
The reception is not obvious - don't overshoot and end up in Bracelands. Had problems with Forest Holidays computer (system change apparently) not sending e-mail confirmation until we asked. Granted it was November, but pitches not clearly marked, not very level, muddy and the only open toilet block was shabby but clean, as were other facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful, but if Forest Holidays can afford the plush cafe and new van, why not update the facilities as well?

Practical Motorhome Snail Trail recommended site Sept 2006
Here are three sites close together, each offering different facilities to suit all styles of camping. To book, either arrive at the reception outside Christchurch, or call the booking line within office hours.
Christchurch is the full-facility site most favoured by families, with motorhome-only hardstandings, each with its own picnic table. Dogs are not accepted. I stayed here for the convenience of the level hardstandings and the motorhome service point, though most of the site is on a slope.
Woodland has no toilet facilities and is set in, surprisingly enough, woodland. It is the quietest of the three sites and most typical of the back-to-basics charm of Forest Holidays’ sites (Forest Holidays is part of the Forestry Commission, but its sites are now managed by the Camping and Caravanning Club).
Bracelands is the largest of the three sites, and offers views of the Wye Valley. Dogs are allowed but there is no children’s play area.
