A uniquely peaceful adult only park based on a garden theme, with pitches set amongst lawns, trees and flower beds. The site is within 800 meters of a championship fly fishing lake, the surrounding country park is a haven for bird watchers and walkers.
All pitches have electric hook up; the facilities are comprised of “en-suite” style shower rooms finished to a very high standard and are heated in the winter. There is a utility room with dish washing and ironing facilities.
The park is close to Bath with its historic spa and shops, Bristol and Weston Super Mare are within easy reach and the site is an excellent base for exploring the Mendip hills and West Country attractions.
I could write a small book on our Fawlty Towers experience... The pitches are small, the circuit breakers locked in boxes, so if yours does trip out you have to call the manager out. When I asked why they were locked, the owner told me he hated people turning their own circuit breakers on, nice thought! The wifi is a joke, the toilet blocks old fashioned and open directly on to the car park.
The whole site gives you a feeling of it being way past its hay day, and you being there to abide by the rules so the owners management of the site can be made easier.
There was little warmth towards guests and when I questioned some small thing I was told I could have a full refund and go! Hardly an appropriate customer service response. So take your chance if you want, but this was the worst site of the 9 we visited in 2011. Or if you want the Fawlty Towers treatment, take a thick skin with you
I stayed at this park recently and was very happy with the place, I have a fairly large caravan and was very pleased with the "valet parking" offered where the staff pitch & levelled the van for me.
Contrary to some of the other comments I have read here, the staff were very helpfull and polite, even finding me a spare light bulb when the one in my reading lamp blew (and with the dark nights, a reading lamp is vital for me).
The loos were great and more than warm enough, despite the freezing nights.
We went for a meal at a pub called the Pony and Trap, just a couple of miles from the park and recommended by them, the meal was great and quite reasonable and when we got home I saw on the news that they had been awarded a Michilen star just a few days after our return, well worth a visit, although you may need to book in future.
I think this is a very nice site and worthy of recomendation.
Whilst I would agree that this is a peaceful site with good facilities I was very disappointed with my visit.
The pitches themselves are very small (I could not walk around my caravan & awning without walking on the boggy grass) and are very close together.
The WIFI is truly awful and is slower than a connection on your mobile phone - even without 3G!!!
The worst thing however is the attitude of the staff on site. They are offhand and they treat you as if they are doing you a favour letting you stay on their site instead of being a valued customer.
Number 1?? I don't think so.
my husband and i were really looking forward to this visit as we had read many a good report about this camp site. Also it having just won P/C adult site of the year. I would say that the owners are fantastic at placing your caravan, telling you the rules of the park and keeping the place spick and span. However the downsides are poor electricity supply and nightmare water supply to showers when all in use. We had very limited electric supply during our entire stay of 8 nights. The showers although immaculate were sporodic in water delivery (my tip shower in the evening when quiet) All staff very pleasant but not really intrested about our negatives!!!
Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park
This is a wonderful adult only site, very pleasant greeting, caravan is pitched and levelled for you . drive your car up to your pitch and then take it to the car park.extremely hardworking staff who keep the whole place beautifull.its like camping in a landscaped back garden.
we would not hesitate to go back.
I visited this excellent park in February & was very pleased to have discovered it, I received a warm welcome on my arrival, help with pitching & levelling my van, even the free loan of a power lead when I discovered I had left mine at home. Nothing it seemed was to much trouble for the wardens.
I visited a number of the local pub / restaurants, which were recommended in the reception area and all were excellent, the blue bowl in particular is worth visiting, although the recently refurbished Red Lion, which is only a 2 minute walk is hard to beat, with great meals at a reasonable price.
We were lucky with the weather which was bright and sunny for February, and the site was incredibly peaceful even though fully booked. The pitches are large and well spaced with flower beds to aid privacy.
One word of advice, do follow the directions that will be sent with your confirmation, don't trust your satnav, we followed the recommended route on the way home and it was far easier than the one the satnav dragged us through on the way there.

If you value peace and quiet, this adults-only site is for you. The grounds are extremely well tended and beautifully landscaped, with a fish pond and a small waterfall. In fact, Bath Chew Valley is so pretty that the BBC Gardeners World programme paid the site a visit
a few years ago.
The approach to the site is narrow, but once you’ve been met at reception and shown to your pitch you’ll soon feel at home. Make sure you unpack everything you’re likely to need from the car, because cars are kept away from the pitches (near reception) at Bath Chew Valley. Not only does this help keep noise to a minimum, it also makes the whole place look smarter.
There are lots of thoughtful touches here, such as the small library and plants for sale from reception. You can even buy ornamental ironwork. Facilities are extremely clean and tidy, and if you’ve forgotten to send that all-important email, there’s free internet access and WIFI connectivity. The site is a David Bellamy Gold Award winner, and the recycling facilities are extensive and easy to use.
There’s no on-site shop, but in Bishop Sutton there’s a general store, newsagents, butchers and a couple of pubs. Larger supermarkets are just a 15-minute drive away. Bath Chew Valley is well situated for visiting Bath, Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.

Practical Motorhome independent site reviews Nov 2006
This small, adults-only site is lovingly cared for by owners Ray and Val Betton. Thoughtful touches abound, such as free, pick-your-own herbs, a tiny library, plants and ironwork for sale, and classical music piped into
the washblock.
The site holds a David
Bellamy Gold Award for its environmentally friendly practices and wildlife-rich habitat. The surrounding area is great for birdwatching, walking and cycling, and keen fishermen will be encouraged to try the nearby trout fishing in the Bath Chew Valley or Blagdon Lakes.
Resisting the temptation to expand beyond 35 pitches,
Ray and Val aim to provide
a quiet and restorative experience for couples and their dogs, who can stretch their paws along the Pup’s Parade. You will be assisted in pitching your ‘van to ensure that the grass verge to the access road is not damaged; for the same reason, groundsheets are not permitted on grass pitches. But overall, this is a relaxed and welcoming site.
Bath Chew Valley attracts a good deal of returning clients, who take advantage of the frequent discounts. It is a popular small site so advance booking is recommended throughout the year.
