Practical Caravans Top 100 Parks Awards 2006

This site is a must for
anyone who wants to get away from it all in Scotland’s great outdoors. To reach Nether Craig you must venture down a narrow, mile-and-a-half -long single-track approach off
a B-road, several miles from Alyth. The upside to such
a remote location is the total peace and quiet.
The views out over the
Angus countryside are outstanding, and the location means there are myriad opportunities for outdoor activities including bird watching, fishing and golf – guide books are available to consult in reception, and you can borrow maps of the local area. The site itself is just as attractive as its surroundings, with its beautifully maintained planting and trees; it is also a repeated winner of the David Bellamy Gold award for conservation.
Pitches are mainly flat, and very spacious – the site is over four square acres in size, but because there are only 40 pitches, each tourer enjoys plenty of space. In addition to the main recreation field, there’s a large central grass area on the site including a small children’s playground, but there are no other on-site leisure facilities except for a picnic area – ensuring a wonderfully peaceful atmosphere. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and always have an eye on the security since all site traffic must past their house. This adds peace of mind to what is a relaxing holiday base.

For a warm welcome and genuine care and attention, it would take a lot to beat Nether Craig. The site is located several miles from the main Alyth road along a B-road, then a mile-and-a-half up a narrow, single-track approach road that ends at a dairy farm just beyond the site. The journey is well worth it as the site is beautifully situated and well looked after by the owners, who live close to the entrance.
Quality is much more important here than quantity, since it would be entirely possible to almost double the capacity. The 4.5-acre site has only 40 pitches, giving about 160sqm per pitch. This extra space makes for a real sense of peace and relaxation.
The owners are justifiably proud of having retained the David Bellamy Gold Award for a third year. You can see why: this is a superbly laid-out site, with well-tended decorative shrubberies, young trees and a lovely woodland walk nearby. And the panoramic views over Angus are superb.
The centrally located toilet building is well-appointed, in excellent condition, and has facilities for disabled campers. The chemical disposal point is discreetly located in a far corner, accessible by car if necessary.
There is a play area for small children in the central grass area, and those wishing to play ball games are encouraged to use an adjacent recreation field.
You will find plenty of tourist information at reception, which also has maps you can borrow to go walking. The site’s location makes it a perfect base for those who enjoy walking, fishing, pony trekking, bird watching and playing golf Security here is good: all traffic must pass by the owner’s house on the no-through road.

Practical Motorhome Independent Site Reviews.

When it comes to genuinely warm customer service, Nether Craig takes some beating. It's situated several miles from the main Alyth road along a B road, half a mile up a narrow single-track. It lies in an attractive rural setting and is well looked after by the owners, who live close to the entrance.
The emphasis here is on quality rather than quantity, since it would be possible to double this site’s capacity. The 40 pitches are spread over 4.5 acres, which gives a roomy 160 sq m per pitch. The owners are proud of having achieved the David Bellamy Gold Award for the second year in a row, and looking at your surroundings you can really see why. This is a superbly laid out site, with well-tended decorative shrubberies, young trees, and a superb woodland walk nearby.
The centrally located toilet block is well appointed and in excellent condition, and has facilities for the disabled. The chemical disposal point is discretely located in a far corner but can also be accessed by car if necessary. The site’s access roads are kept in good working order.
There is a pleasant play area for small children in the central grassed area, while those wishing to play ball games are encouraged to use an adjacent recreation field to keep balls well away from caravans. Families with young children are provided with a key to allow them to access the disabled toilet facilities.
Although there are no CCTV cameras, security is personally undertaken by the owners at Nether Craig. The single access road is a dead end, and all traffic has to pass by the owners' own house.

Practical Caravans Top 100 Parks Awards 2003

Set in the lowlands of the Strathmore Valley, with views of the Sidlaw Hills and the glens of Angus, Nether Craig Caravan Park is at the foot of where the Highlands begin. The park’s manicured grounds and elegant landscaping are in keeping with the beautiful Perthshire countryside which surrounds it. You can even enjoy the environs from the confines of the park itself. A one-mile woodland nature trail meanders through the site with picnic benches en route.

Everyone, though, succumbs to the area’s limitless charms and ventures beyond the site’s perimeter. The Angus glens offer hill walks of varying difficulty, and some can be tackled on a bike. There’s also birdwatching on offer at the Blairgowrie RSPB reserve, and it wouldn’t be Scotland without the staple offerings of fishing and golf.

History lovers are well served, too, with numerous landmarks within easy reach. Most notable are Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the Queen Mother, and the town of Alyth. The nearby village of Braemar, with a fine castle of its own, is also worth a visit. The site itself is meticulously laid-out, with gravel roads linking up the 40 mostly level pitches (including 26 hardstandings). All have electric hook-up (10A), while the central purpose-built toilet block is well equipped and maintained.

The family who run the site always extend a warm welcome at the reception building, which doubles as a shop, providing tourist information, gas and other essentials.
