a family with children, a camper

Spent 5days Camping at this site and was very disappointed. we chose the site because it was close to the holiday town of Portrush and was assured when we called to enquire that there was plenty of space for a large family tent, this was simply not the case. all tents on the site were crammed into a small green surrounded by inner campsite roads so initially it was very difficult simply to get room to set up the tent. the toilets were frankly filthy with 3urinals and 3toilets for the entire site, the area for washing dishes was outside and out of 6taps only 2worked properly so at peak times you could wait a long time to get to the working taps. the showers cost £1 and were usually cold especially if people were washing dishes, when I complained to the owners that the showers were cold they said "maybe I should shower when the sinks weren't being used as much then the water would be warm" which is simply an insult especially when your paying £20 a night for a tiny pitch then an additional £1 every time you want to shower so for 2adults and 2kids at a £1 each shower it adds up to very poor value for money. My Father warned me that it was a good site 15years ago but he had heard a lot of bad reviews lately and I wish I had of listened to him because there are far better sites around than this one. 1/5 only because I cant chose zero

Wouldn't go back. Caravans very tighly packed together. Whilst inside our caravan we could hear the people behind us talking in theirs! One of the electric boxes was dangerous and the side panel fell on one small toddler. We reported it to staff who did nothing about it and a group of us had to use duck tape to put panel back on. Showers ... oh no. Found a c****m in one so not really a place for children! Of course getting them to work was another story. :(

Stayed at this family friendly site for a week in August 2010 when we rented an on site caravan to accomodat ourselves and 3 young children. Have to say we were very pleased with the caravan..very clean, spacious with our own toilet and washing facilities on board. cooking facilities were excellent and there was also an onsite cafe which served up everthing from a snack to a meal...excellent quality and price!
The site itself was close to all the amenities in Portrush...beaches, and Barrys and Waterworld etc but also let you bypass the town if travelling further afield.
The site was well staffed..everyone was very friendly and helpful.
The kiddies playground had loads of equipment to keep the kids entertained and was safe being fully enclosed.
Have to say would have no qualms in recommending this site to anyone.

The site over last period has made a number of poor decisions on changes and the site is not good anymore compared to other local good sites. This seems to have coincided with a site manager change.

Over three years ago site was to get a new children’s park as current one is very poor with very little equipment and is out of date. They seem to have spent the money for this on their new office block instead of thinking about their customers.

They have forced the excellent chip shop out, run by another business, and replaced it with their own cafe. Unfortunately the standard is very poor and has a very limited range on the menu. They have no experience of this type of business so it is not surprising. It is also high priced. Anyone would be advised to go to another chip shop. Please avoid Chambers chip shop nearby as this is very poor also. Best places are Mr Chips in town centre or Lisa's in Skerries Caravan site (easy parking).

In summary: Was good but not anymore. Better sites around.

we stayed in hilltop for 4 nites in july just after the 12th. at the time it was only our 2nd outing in the caravan as im still getting used to pulling the van we decided on hilltop as we knew exactly were it was. very disapointed with the whole set up far to many pitches cramed into 3 small lanes so even seasoned caravaners were finding it hard reversing into there allocated spot thats if your spot was vacant when you arrive!! Poor dishwashing facilities, small and basic. as for getting yourself washed the 2 sinks in the mens toilets were right beside urinals and cubicals the light was on a timer that lasted for about 10 secs max then goes out!! showers were £1 a go

the play ground was away out of the road so you wouldnt let your kids go on their own it was right at front of site beside main road and entrance which i found abit strange
