A very pleasant, carefully landscaped forest site, with open pitching areas within the woodland and quiet walks from the site. The woodland attracts all kinds of birds, so birdwatchers will enjoy a stay here. Those with RAF associations may come for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, for Mildenhall Air Show happens at the adjacent US Air Force base annually at Spring Bank Holiday and is the biggest display of military aircraft in Europe. The Aircraft Museum at Duxiord is only a short drive away.

It helps if you like squirrels if you visit this delightful site set in deepest Suffolk close to the US airforce military base at Mildenhall. They were everywhere at the time of our visit, providing 8 year old daughter with plenty of entertainment as they scurried amongst the many pine trees that make this site so attractive.
Accessed easily from the A11 after picking up the A1101 Mildenhall Road, pitching in one of the three small glades is easy after having checked in with the (volunteer)wardens.
This is no full fat site, being without toilet blocks, games room or play area but what you do have is a real sense of getting in touch with nature. Trails lead from the site offering walks or bike rides and a nearby corner shop and restaurant will take care of the appetite you build up although Mildenhall, 5 minutes away by car, has the ususal supermarket, petrol stations and so on.
The presence of the US military goes back to World War Two and the roar of mighty engines lifting huge planes over the site is heard (and the planes can be seen through the trees)frequently during the day but never seems to be at odds with the surroundings - it all seems part of the experience somehow.
Open 18 March - 07 November. 80 pitches, 6 hardstanding. £11 per night
